Good News for Copyright Owners

If someone is using your photograph, artwork, or music without permission, you may have a claim for copyright infringement.


An increase to the claim limit in Ontario small claims court to $35,000 is good news for artists and musicians given the often cost-prohibitive nature of suing for copyright infringement in other courts.


While the majority of copyright cases in Canada are still heard in Federal Court, small claims court is now a viable option where the infringement takes place in Ontario only.
